The Information and Communication Technology cluster constitutes a true value chain: educator, researcher, contractor, subcontractor, investor, partner and customer. When enthusiastic companies surround best practices, ideas and customer needs, a creative platform for the business growth and development of ICT companies is formed.

The University of Jyväskylä and JAMK University of Applied Sciences together have more than 20 000 students of which 3000 major in ICT, which includes multiple curricula from hardware design to information systems.

Strong IT education and research at the University of Jyväskylä and at JAMK University of Applied Sciences ensures the availability of high quality personnel and experts for technology companies. Both universities have an outstanding history of industrial cooperation both with world-class enterprises and local innovative start-ups.

The Jyväskylä region has over 500 companies and 5 000 employees in the ICT sector, e.g. Nokia, EADS, TietoEnator, Landis&Gyr, The Finnish Defence Forces. Global paper technology companies (e.g. Metso, UPM, M-real), energy and performance providers, all of which are and interesting partners in ICT and represent excellent gateways to international business opportunities.

The Jyväskylä Region Centre of Expertise participates in the national Ubiquitous Computing Cluster Programme.
